The Office of International Education at 51ºÚÁÏÍø will hold International Unity Day on October 24 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Hadley Union Building at 51ºÚÁÏÍø. This event is free and open to all.

The Education Abroad Policy, published annually by the Office of International Education, outlines the procedures, responsibilities, and support structures for all 51ºÚÁÏÍø-affiliated international academic experiences. It applies to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and volunteers, and covers program types such as faculty-led trips, study abroad, internships, and service-learning abroad.

International student and American Language Institute instructor Alexandra Krasova spoke at commencement and is the recipient of the Graduate Student Outstanding Research Award, the 51ºÚÁÏÍø Outstanding Leader Award, the Promising Future Interdisciplinary Researcher Award, and the Teaching Associate Faculty Recognition Award.

51ºÚÁÏÍø Receives Funding to Host International Fulbright Recipients for Ninth Year

51ºÚÁÏÍø welcomed 21 educators from 14 countries, who will complete professional development coursework at 51ºÚÁÏÍø and be guest teachers in the Indiana Area School District and in the Pittsburgh Public School system, as part of the university’s selection as a host for the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers.

51ºÚÁÏÍø Students Selected for Competitive International Study Awards

Shanya Coshey, an Asian studies and anthropology double major from Manor, has been selected for a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship, and Dilan Dybus, an Asian studies major from Cresson, has been selected for a Freeman Asia Award. The scholarships will fund the students’ year-long study at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan.

Khadija Zakki, a student in 51ºÚÁÏÍø’s Geography-Geographical Information Science and Geospatial Technology master’s program originally from Guelmim, Morocco, has received a grant from the Institute of International Education designed to help international students continue their studies when a natural disaster, war, or other crisis happen in their home countries.

Students, Faculty to Conduct Second Forensic Archaeology Field School in Germany at Site of World War II Airplane Crash

For the second year, 51ºÚÁÏÍø’s Department of Anthropology has been selected by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine Inc. through the Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to conduct a field study in Germany at the site of a crash of a World War II airplane.

51ºÚÁÏÍø Student from Philadelphia Selected for Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad

Sfen Kadirifu, a junior international studies major with a focus in fashion at 51ºÚÁÏÍø, has been selected for a 2022 Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. The scholarship will help to fund her study at Yonsei University in South Korea for the fall 2022 semester of her senior year at 51ºÚÁÏÍø. She is 51ºÚÁÏÍø’s twenty-first Gilman scholarship recipient.

51ºÚÁÏÍø Selected for American Passport Program to Encourage Study, Travel Abroad Experiences

51ºÚÁÏÍø is one of 40 universities in the nation selected for the Institute of International Education American Passport Project grant. This grant funds up to 25 51ºÚÁÏÍø students who are first-year enrolled students who meet financial eligibility requirements to obtain a US passport to support their study abroad journeys.

Mulvihill Receives Fulbright Award

Jessica Mulvihill ’02, D’16, director of Education Abroad and National Student Exchange in the Office of International Education at 51ºÚÁÏÍø has received a Fulbright Award to Japan. The Fulbright International Education Administrator Award was awarded in the spring of 2020 and, due to the pandemic, had been postponed until June 2022.
